Why are so many systems designed too small from the outset? I see it time and again: a customer comes to us with a clear objective.
More throughput.
Less effort.
Implemented quickly.
It sounds reasonable.
But it is often where the problem begins.
Because these objectives describe only the pain felt today.
Not the system itself.
If we design a system solely around what hurts today, it will already be too restrictive tomorrow.
New products.
New customers.
New volumes.
New requirements.
The system still works, but it becomes a constraint instead of providing support.
That is why I try to ask a different question early on: what must never happen in the future, no matter how much you grow?
That question shifts the focus.
Away from figures.
Towards stability, scalability and the ability to make decisions.
A good system does not merely solve today’s problem.
It prevents the next three.
